The Republic of Botswana is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. Formerly a British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana attained independence from Britain on the 30th September 1966. Since then, it has maintained a strong tradition of stable representative democracy, with a consistent record of uninterrupted democratic elections since 1966. Botswana is topographically flat, with up to 70 percent of its territory covered by the semi-arid Kalahari Desert. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, Zimbabwe to the northeast and Zambia to the north A mid-sized country of just over 2 million people, Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. Around 10 percent of the population lives in the capital and largest city, Gaborone. The economy is dominated by mining, cattle, and tourism.



THE BOTSWANA EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL.

Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) will host the 2019 SAAEA conference. BEC is the sole examination body in Botswana. It is a body Corporate mandated by an Act of Parliament to conduct school examinations and any other examinations for the Ministry of Basic Education (MoBE) and issue certificates in respect of these examinations.The national school examinations are; Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) and the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE). BEC’s key business activities include the development of an assessment policy, regulations and assessment instruments for the conduct of national schools examination programmes in the general education subsector.
